The nuclear sector and job creation
A major industrial force, the French nuclear sector comprises more than 2 500 enterprises of all sizes, including a very large number of small and medium sized companies. Six hundred of these form a hardcore, due to their specialised skills and acquired experience of the French nuclear power program. Overall, the sector has nearly 220 000 employees (CSFN study, 2011), a turnover of 46bn euros, of which exports account for 5.6bn euros and generates an estimated added value of 15bn euros.
The sector has a high level of reinvestment and has to confront the challenges of generation-related renewals, and also the development of future markets. It should generate more than 100 000 job vacancies between now and 2020.
Out of the 220 000 current direct and indirect jobs and the 15 000 vacancies per year to come in the sector, the Bourgogne, Rhône-Alpes and South Mediterranean areas represent approximately 98 000 of the jobs and more than 6 300 people hired per year.
The positions require qualifications and are mainly at the level of technicians and supervisors, engineers and management.
